Pelliconi opens an Innovation Antenna in Silicon Valley
With over 80 years of experience, the worldwide leader of crown corks production opens an outpost powered by Mind the Bridge in San Francisco

San Francisco and Bologna, March 21, 2022 - Pelliconi, worldwide leader in crown corks production and one of the top closures manufacturers, announces the launch of an Outpost within the Mind the Bridge Innovation Center in San Francisco.

Based on its mission to always welcome the challenges arising in international markets, the iconic Italian company founded in Bologna in 1939 aims at spotting emerging trends and innovative solutions for the Food&Beverage Industry.

“Back in 2017 Pelliconi created an internal Innovation Department: an interdisciplinary team designed to respond to specific customers’ requests and anticipate market needs by developing new projects - commented Marco Checchi, CEO of Pelliconi - Thanks to this decision, new products, processes, and services have been developed throughout the years. In 2019 the Department opened a satellite branch in China. Now it’s time to steadily step foot in Silicon Valley, where international trends are being set, leveraging the expertise and presence on the ground of Mind the Bridge”.

Pelliconi’s interest in emerging trends include both product and process innovations, from new materials to manufacturing, waste management, sustainability, and ecological footprint. All this to be achieved within an ecosystem of partners (suppliers, research centers, engineering companies, startups, scaleups, universities) to access specific, cutting-edge know-how.

“With 80+ years of experience in metal and plastic industrial processing and in the production processes for the packaging sector, such as capping, Pelliconi is a showpiece of the Italian entrepreneurial economy - added Alberto Onetti, Chairman of Mind the Bridge - Over the past few years, the company has put innovation at the forefront of its strategy. The new Innovation Antenna in Silicon Valley can definitively boost this process by improving the company’s long term sight.”

Initially Pelliconi acted as a large exporter, then it started focusing on local manufacturing and established production plants in foreign markets becoming a multinational. Nowadays, Pelliconi exports more than 90% of its production. Sustainability is part of the company's DNA, both internally, in their factories, and externally, in the communities in which the company operates.

A few examples of Pelliconi’s steady innovation growth path are the 26mm Flower Cap, with its smooth design and soft feel; P•ink, the new digital printing service that personalizes 26 and 29mm crown caps even in small quantities; and SOPURE, the PVC-free capsule for baby food.

“For Pelliconi, innovation means having a well-structured process that has been consolidated over years of activity, thanks to the use of different methodologies such as Design Thinking, Lean Startup, Open Innovation and Agile Development. Being open to external ecosystems and having a strong focus on execution are the distinctive elements of Pelliconi's approach to innovation”, Marco Checchi ended.
